All the people who made it past the audition stage now went to Hollywood, and performed on stage. The judges quickly eliminated half the contestants. The contestants then got into groups of three, and had to sing a song with a semi-famous singer, and more contestants were cut. Finally, the judges dived the aspiring singers into three different rooms - two which would make up the 32 that would move on, and one room which would mark the end of the road.

The remaining 32 perform for the judges and find out if they're going on to the next round or will be packing their bags.

American Idol has dedicated this night to give back to people in Africa and the USA that live in poverty by staging a benefit night. A number of stars will appear along with the final six members of Idol and some well known singers performing. Every vote cast would raise money from sponsors to go to these charities.
